I have kind of cognitive dissonance between spectrum analysis (aka Spectralyzer v2) values and calculated track gain value.

Use attached pics for further explanation.

Spectralyzer value is ~0dB I gues it is a peak value for one single frequency @200Hz.

The value calculated by Tag Editor (Track Gain (dB) pressing two arrows) is -7,65 dB presumably RMS value.

My personal observation: calculated Track Gain value is ~6 dB to low.

For example another track with calculated Track Gain  value -10,32 dB sounds very normal without clipping ect. by setting Track Gain value to ~ -4 dB.

Observing visualization "Analog Meter - Classic" (the movement speed is too low to observe fast peaks I know) and build in in A4 Skin spectrum, user value of about -4 dB for this track is a golden spot.

All my tracks sounds very much good with setting %calculated Track Gain value% + 6 db

Question: is there an explanation for this difference?

Is there a factor of 1/4 (or 1/2) by calculation of Track Gain. That would explain -6 db difference (10xlog(1/4)    or   20xlog(1/2))

If you want louder, do not edit the calculated gain values, use the preamp in the AIMP's RG settings.

So ReplyGain is ether RMS nor peak normalization.

This is a very rare case, mostly when a track is manually recorded with MIC or other sources.

All my tracks are created from CD's with ExactAudioCopy or AIMP Audio Converter without volume normalization.

I use Track Gain only to reduce volume of a track. In cases if it is distortion to hear and/or VU meter peaks reach far over 0 dB.

Very common example:

I hear some distortion (my EQ Settings are off) and select this track -> press F4 to open Tag Editor, go to Vorbis an press two arrows.

Calculated value is for example for selected track is -9,94 dB. But, with this value this track is much quieter as tracks with no entry (and no distortion).

So I increase calculated value  + 6 dB, in this example -9,94 dB + 6 dB = -3,94 dB; I put -4 dB and it is fine, and comparable with other tracks without entry and distortion.

And with many manually corrected tracks I noticed ~ 6 dB deviance. This is the reason for my primal question.
