[NO ML] Sony FH-215R

[m4r6i0]

Name: Sony FH-215R
Version: 1.4
For: AIMP 5 and AIMP 6 (tested on AIMP 5 and AIMP 6 beta 7, build 3089)

Changes since v1.2

• EQ FLAT and EQ LEVEL now really work (flatten the equalizer / change the equalizer preamp)
• Equalizer on/off switch is visible on the amplifier (the "GRAPHIC EQUALIZER" legend)
• The 7 sliders drive the 20-band equalizer smoothly instead of skipping bands
• Spectrum columns aligned with the background grid
• Windows open side by side on a fresh profile; each one has an "x" and is listed in the main menu
• Reels use 24 frames; tooltips on the FUNCTION keys
• v1.4: the windows are free again - drag any window by its top bar to detach it (v1.3 pinned them to the tuner); they are only arranged around the tuner on the first run
• Tested on AIMP 5 and AIMP 6 beta 7 (build 3089)

Hello everyone,

This is a window-per-module replica of the Sony FH-215R component system from 1987, built for AIMP 5. Each component of the real stack gets its own window, the way the units sit on a shelf.

ST-215 — FM/AM tuner
Frequency and clock alternating on the amber VFD, RDS panel (PS / RT / PTY), 20 station presets with a working keypad.

TA-215 — integrated amplifier
7-band spectrum analyser with peak hold, VOL LEVEL column, graphic equalizer and 3 EQ memories.

FH-215R — receiver
SAT indicator, FUNCTION INDICATOR that lights only the active source, VOLUME keys, MUTING and BALANCE.

TC-215R — cassette deck
An animated Sony cassette with spinning reels, a mechanical tape counter, MODE INDICATOR and a door that slides open on EJECT.

What moves

• Reels spin while audio plays — faster on FF/REW, and backwards on REW
• Tape transfers from one reel to the other as the track advances
• Three real Sony cassette models (HF type I, UCX type II, METAL-ES type IV) — switching changes the whole shell: colours, label, band, ink and emblem
• The cassette door opens and closes on EJECT
• The function indicator follows the source: TUNER for streams, TAPE for local files
• The SAT window lights when the equalizer is on

Optional companion plugin
Two features need the plugin "M80 EQ Memory" (I will post it separately), because the skin engine cannot load an equalizer curve or persist anything between sessions:

• EQ PRESET 1/2/3 as real memories, using the original gesture — press EQ MEMORY to arm (MEMORY blinks), then press 1, 2 or 3 to store; press 1/2/3 without arming to recall
• EJECT opening the file dialog after the door animation

Without the plugin the skin works normally, only those two features are idle. The plugin attaches solely to this skin's windows and stays inert with any other skin.

Notes
Designed at 952 px and it follows Windows display scaling. The skin is produced by a code generator (Python + Pillow) and the project file is included, so anyone can study or modify it. The FH-215R panel lettering was redrawn glyph by glyph from photographs of the unit, since no existing font matches it.

Not affiliated with Sony. Free to use and modify. Feedback is very welcome.

How it works - what each key does

This is not a normal player skin: it is a replica of a 1987 hi-fi stack, one window per component, and every key of the real unit is mapped to an AIMP function. The tuner (ST-215) is the main window because AIMP needs one master window: it holds the main menu, the stations/playlist keypad and the minimize/close buttons, and the other four windows dock to it - drag the tuner and the whole stack moves with it (on a small screen, drag it to the left if the right column starts off-screen). Any other window can be detached: drag it by its top bar and place it wherever you want.

Tuner ST-215 (main window)

• 1 MENU - the AIMP main menu (open files, preferences, plugins, skins, and the list of the other windows: tick/untick to show/hide)
• 2 Display - station name (PS), current song (RT), program (PTY); click the clock to see the remaining time
• 3 Keypad - 1 previous track, 2 next track, 3 play the selected one, 4/5 previous/next playlist, 6 bookmark, 7 add to queue, 8 bookmarks manager, 9 save playlist, MEM add a URL/radio, 0 delete the selected item, ENTER playlist manager
• 4 STEREO/MUTING - mute; 5 BAND - add URL/radio; 6 TUNING - previous/next track; 7 MEMORY SCAN - shuffle the playlist

Receiver FH-215R

• 8 VOLUME -/+ (hold to repeat); 9 MUTING; 10 BALANCE
• 11 POWER - keeps the windows always on top; 12 SAT - equalizer on/off (lit = on)
• 13 FUNCTION - TAPE shows/hides the deck, CD the playlist, TUNER the amplifier/equalizer; PHONO opens the Music Library

Amplifier TA-215

• 14 GRAPHIC EQUALIZER - the legend is the equalizer on/off switch; the analyzer shows 7 bands
• 15 EQ PRESET 1-3 - left click picks a memory, right click opens AIMP's list of curves
• 16 DISPLAY - next visualization; EQ FLAT - all bands and preamp to 0 dB; EQ MEMORY - stores the curve into the chosen memory (press EQ MEMORY, then 1/2/3 - needs the optional plugin)
• 17 The 7 sliders - 63 Hz to 14 kHz; they drive the 20-band equalizer smoothly; 18 EQ LEVEL -/+ - equalizer preamp

Deck TC-215R

• 19 EJECT - opens the door and lets you choose what to play (the file dialog needs the optional plugin); 20 transport - rewind/forward (hold), previous, play/pause, next, REC (records the radio), stop, pause
• 21 AUTO REVERSE - repeat; 22 DIRECTION MODE - shuffle; 23 DOLBY NR - stop at the end of the track; 24 - tape type (HF / UCX / METAL-ES)

Playlist

• 25 playlist tabs; 26 quick search; 27 add / remove / sort / more options

Every window except the tuner has an x that hides it; bring it back from the tuner's MENU or with the FUNCTION keys. The tuner's own x closes AIMP.

• 8 VOLUME -/+ (при удержании повторяется); 9 MUTING; 10 BALANCE

• 14 GRAPHIC EQUALIZER -

Soolo, thank you very much for the review — all three issues are fixed in v1.1.

1. Empty playlist tabs
My mistake: I was styling the TabControl with the Fonts block used by
buttons. TabControl needs TabsOptions instead, with its own named fonts
(Font, FontHot, FontActive, FontPlaying…) and the per-tab header texture. With
the wrong property names the engine silently ignored everything, so the tab
titles rendered invisible. Tabs now show properly, including the green
highlight for the playing playlist.

2. Unlabelled buttons
The four playlist buttons now have proper glyphs — plus, minus, sort and more
options — following the same approach as the stock skin (pwbAdd / pwbRemove /
pwbSort), where the icon explains the button.

3. Tooltip not localized
Removed the hardcoded tooltips entirely. The buttons rely on their icons now,
and the quick search field uses @Lng:33; so AIMP supplies the localized string.
The search box also got a visible frame and a magnifier glyph, since it looked
like an unexplained empty box.

Thanks again — the report was precise and made the fixes easy.

Black_AVP_Bim, thank you for letting me know, and sorry for the delay. The previous links were on catbox.moe, which is not reachable from Russia. All files are now on Dropbox, which is on this board's list of recommended file hosts.

v1.2 is out as well:

• All tooltips are now localized through the skin's own language files: English by default, Portuguese when AIMP runs in Portuguese. v1.1 still had Portuguese hints outside the playlist. Thanks to Soolo for pointing that out.
• The playlist summary line (tracks / duration) is localized too.

Preamp.

[IK94]

Where is the Music Library window

(So why FM-AM tuner is a main window, not Cassette Deck one, for example? And I didn't find some buttons at the first (menu/close/options) and I opened Options window via hotkeys only)

[Black_AVP_Bim]

Cassette Deck?

[m4r6i0]

Thank you both, Black_AVP_Bim and IK94 - this was exactly the kind of feedback I needed. I tested everything below on a clean profile in AIMP 5 and in AIMP 6 beta 7 (build 3089).

Download v1.4 (v1.4 replaces v1.3: in v1.3 the windows were pinned to the tuner and could not be detached - fixed)
Skin: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/rveoy22u14jow5h70g4wj/Sony-FH-215R-v1.4.acs5?rlkey=o5d6tsexpc61pxocb1blitujj&dl=1

Fixed
- EQ FLAT now really flattens the equalizer (all 20 bands + preamp to 0 dB). It was wired to Crossfade - my mistake.
- EQ LEVEL -/+ now changes the equalizer preamp (hold to repeat). It was wired to the volume - my mistake.
- The equalizer on/off switch is now visible on the amplifier: the "GRAPHIC EQUALIZER" legend lights up when the EQ is on, click it to switch.
- The 7 sliders no longer skip bands: when you move one, the bands between its neighbours follow a straight line to it (a small script updates the 20-band equalizer). If you pick a preset, the preset is not touched.
- Spectrum columns are now aligned with the background grid (the control width was not a multiple of the engine's column pitch).
- Windows open side by side on the first run (and can be dragged apart) (they used to stack at one point, so only the playlist was visible - I think that is why the cassette "did not show" in AIMP 6; I reproduced it with v1.2 and it is gone in v1.3).
- The four windows now have names and are listed in the main menu (check = visible). Each child window has an "x" that hides it; they come back from the menu or the FUNCTION keys.
- The reels now use 24 frames instead of 12. The FUNCTION keys have tooltips (PHONO opens the music library).

Not changed, on purpose
- The tuner remains the main window and the only one with the MENU button: the whole theme hangs from it, and all windows move together when you drag it. On a fresh profile AIMP centers the tuner, so on a small screen the right column can start off-screen - just drag the tuner to the left.
- Reels still use the timer-driven StateDisplay. I kept it because it works well in both 5 and 6; if the Animator is better for you, I can switch in the next version.

I also added a 'How it works' section with a numbered picture to the first post, explaining what each key does.

Please keep the reports coming.
