Title: Smart Playlists-Folders update and Queue Manager Actions
Post by: verbal on June 27, 2026, 12:51:42
I'm mainly using Smart Playlists (Folders) and have a few questions:

1. Find New Files vs. Reload Data from Preimage:
I only monitor a few folders inside one parent folder, but Find New Files shows the parent folder instead of the selected folders.
Does it scan the entire parent folder or only the monitored folders?
... sometimes it even shows a different path than the one stored in the preimage. Is that expected ?

2. Reload Data from Preimage:
Should Reload Data from Preimage rebuild the playlist (add new files) and apply the playlist's sorting template?
I've noticed that new files are simply appended to the bottom, even though I have "new files at the top" enabled.

3. Queue Manager:
Is there a faster way to reorder queued tracks besides dragging or moving them one by one?
Are there options like: Move to top/bottom... Play after current track...
Or perhaps a plugin that adds this functionality?

4. Excluding Subfolders:
Can I exclude specific subfolders from a monitored folder in the preimage? I know file extensions can be excluded, but what about folders?

5. Shortcut:
Can a keyboard shortcut be assigned to Send to other playlist?

6. Queue Playback:
In Queue mode, after a track finishes, pressing Previous doesn't return to the song that just played-it usually jumps to another track (often the last one in the playlist). Is this the intended behavior?

Thanks! :-*

Find New Files

It legacy solution, don't use it if you using the smart-playlists

I've noticed that new files are simply appended to the bottom, even though I have "new files at the top" enabled.

Yes, sorting template are applied to content after synchronization. What sorting template you have specified for the playlist?

Can I exclude specific subfolders from a monitored folder in the preimage? I know file extensions can be excluded, but what about folders?

Yes, sure. Go to folders tab, click add and select folders that you want to scan (uncheck folders that you want to exclude)

Send to other playlist?

No, because the command requires to select target playlist

About queue, I think you misunderstand the queue's goal.

So, what do you suggest? Just stick to reload pre-Image option?

Ive set up %!%Year - %!%FileCreatedDate - %FileDir - %TrackNumber so what I do, I just copy new folders/albums in the folder and I hit R-reload preimage...

This would be great but not possible, If you setup only one parent folder to be monitored you cant open it and select/deselect specific folders... :(

yes, just setting up what specific key or number do ... just linkin number and list would be cool

Yes

Look at how these fields are filled in for tracks that are out of place. Perhaps we have an incorrect Creation Date

This would be great but not possible, If you setup only one parent folder to be monitored you cant open it and select/deselect specific folders...

Why you think so? For example, here I've excluded "Games" sub-folder from indexing:

Ok, I will think about kind of implementation

Reload Data from Preimage:    Just some feedback...
I have a Smart List containing 27 710 MP3 files. It takes about 97 seconds to Reload Data from Preimage after adding a new album (15 files). The new album also doesn't appear at the top of the list, even though the list is sorted by a string that should place it there.

What's interesting is that the same sort string works correctly when I manually sort the albums-it immediately puts the new album at the top as expected.

Excluding Subfolders:
Regarding the suggested workaround of dragging and dropping folders into the list-I understand how that works. However, what if your Music folder contains over 1 000 album folders that you're constantly updating, and you only want to exclude a single folder? Wouldn't that mean you'd have to manually add every new album to the list each time?

It make sense. How often do you add an album to your music folder but don't want it to be indexed? Personally, I put temporary songs in a temporary folder and only keep the ones I like in Music.

...or an even better question: "How often do I add songs that I actually want to be indexed?" 🙂

I'm OK with adding new albums manually, so this is just an idea. Maybe one day you could implement a drop-down menu where it would be possible to uncheck folders you don't want to scan and simply reload the preimage whenever there are changes within a folder's contents.

Yeah, I'm doing something similar. The only difference is that I'm building a music collection, so I'm a bit more detail-oriented and constantly adding new content.

I understand your case, and I will probably have to create another list with ignored folders
