Title: [?] [3067] [Linux] Media keys sometimes stop working for AIMP
Post by: Lutalli on June 07, 2026, 00:40:41
Using CachyOS with KDE Plasma. Since some update of AIMP (I don't remember which exactly), the media keys (previous song, next song, play/pause) sometimes stop working for AIMP. "Sometimes" as this happens randomly and I haven't found a way to reproduce it yet. Restarting the program or restarting the computer might fix it, but not always.

When this is happening, it looks like AIMP is still responding to the input in some way - The highlight of the currently playing song blinks when I press a media key, but it just won't change to another song or play/pause.

v6.00.3067 beta 3 (03.06.2026)

As far as I remember, the bug also appeared in previous few updates.

Any entries in the console in this case? What is your desktop session, X11 or Wayland?

Using X11. I ran AIMP in the terminal and it doesn't look like there is anything interesting in the output. If I try to press media keys when it's buggy, there is also no new message (at all) in the terminal.

I attached the initial output after launching AIMP.

The issue occurs on different skins.

v6.00.3067 Beta 3
GTK3-64-bit (03.06.2026)
Linux / CachyOS rolling / KDE on WAYLAND (Plasma 6.6.5)

Same issue here on Wayland instead of X11. Below is my AIMP terminal launch output too, same as Lutalli where pressing media keys in this state doesn't post anything in terminal.

Under KDE Keyboard Shortcuts settings, disabling the default 'Media Play' (under Play/Pause), 'Media Previous' and 'Media Next' shortcuts under Media Controller allows the media keys to control AIMP in this state. I'll just have to keep the default shortcuts for Play, Previous and Next disabled for now as it allows me to control AIMP in the bugged and unbugged state.

Please, try a nightly build with the fix.

v6.00.3068 Beta 3
GTK3-64-bit (06.06.2026)
Linux / CachyOS rolling / KDE on WAYLAND

I've been using that build since you sent it and it does seem to happen less often but it did happen once which seemed to fix after restarting AIMP, where with v6.00.3067 Beta 3 it wouldn't fix after restarting AIMP.
