Title: How can I save playback position per file?
Post by: JimReeves0091 on September 16, 2024, 11:52:12
Hello,

I'm trying to figure out how to make AIMP remember playback position per file. Is this even possible?

I want to be able to close AIMP mid playback, then when I click to open the same file again in Windows Explorer via AIMP, I want it to resume the playback from when it stopped.

So far I've tried enabling the settings:
Player > Automatic > On app startup > Restore the state + Restore playback position

But as the settings themselves suggest, they are only applied "On app startup".

So when I open the app directly, yes, then it works.

But when I click on the same file in Windows Explorer (to open via AIMP), it doesn't work. AIMP restarts playback from the beginning.

Could it be that such a basic feature is missing in AIMP??

Thanks in advance!

Okay, thank you for clarifying that!

Is there perhaps any plans to implement this as a feature?

I don't want to return to old Winamp just to have this... :'(

Winamp provides an ability to catch a bookmark on start playback from external app? This is the first time I hear about this.

I never said anything regarding an external app. I mean the feature of remembering playback position of a specific file, so when you open that specific file again, it continues to play from where it left off last time.

However, it seems you are correct that Winamp doesn't have this feature either. I seem to have misremembered.
I know for a fact this feature exists in Media Player Classic (MPC), and VLC (because I use them daily). But those are designed more for watching Videos.

So my example of Winamp was incorrect. But I still would like to see this feature implemented like in VLC or MPC.

Thank you.

In 5.40, has something like that, it works when you start the playback from the playlist: https://www.aimp.ru/blogs/?p=1437
