Title: Difference between "stop" options
Post by: JD79 on December 26, 2022, 22:25:42
A right-click on the stop button brings up the options:
* "Stop playback after current file"
* "Stop playback at beginning of next track"

I thought the first option stops after the end of a track and doesn't change the chosen file (so a following "play" would start the same track again) while the second option stops after the end of a track and selects to the next file (so a following "play" would start the next track).

But it just doesn't make any difference for me. It always stops after the current track and skips the selection to the next track.

Any explanation or help? Maybe a bug?

1. Do you have actual AIMP?

2. One option stops playback. The other switches to the next track and pauses.

1. I'm using v5.10.2418 at the moment.
2. Nope, that doesn't work for me at all (and hasn't worked for at least many versions before). "Stop playback" stops the file immediately, both other options have the same effect: they stop after the file and the next file is selected.

On the "stop" button, the action is one-time.
There are more reusable in the settings. Because of this, you don't see the difference.

Okay, yes, I also have "Automatically jump to next track" enabled.
When I deactivate this, the player stops after every track, that's not what I want it to do.

In my understanding
(a) "Stop playback after current file" should stop the playback after the current track and stay on the selected track,
(b) "Stop playback at beginning of next track" should also stop the playback after the current track and also select the next track.

Is it possible to be able to use both right-click "stop" options? What settings would I have to use for that?
If that's not possible... why the two options under "stop"?

I sent a request to the developer via callback to the topic.
Also, you wrote other option names. Try reinstalling the player. Or test on a separate portable version.

3rd command jumps to next track and pauses the playback. So, when you click "play", track will be started immediately (without pre-loading)

Okay, this makes sense so far, thanks for clearing up.

Does this also mean that there's no possibility to have AIMP stop after playback of one track without moving forward to the next one as long as I don't disable "automatically jump to next track" completely?

What reason to keep playback cursor on just played track? Yes, switched off the option is one possible solution for now

Repeat track + Stop playback after current file = do not select (jump to) next playlist item after stop

For example: Listening to a couple of tracks and wanting to copy some of them if they stand out to my ears. Then I'd like to stop after full playback to be able to decide if I rellay want it copied - AIMP then always is highlighting the next track which confuses the hell out of me. WinAMP does / can do this different.

Or:
Stop after track to be able to have that single track be repeated when I got the time to actively listen to it instead of only have it playing in the background.

Is it have an option for that behavior?

I don't have WinAMP installed anymore but it works like I thought AIMP would, too: There's an right-click-option on "stop" to have it stop after the current playing track without moving on.

Yes, you are right (I've checked now), but I think that this behavior is not correct, because you need to unable to start playback of next track immediately in this case.

Hm I don't really understand - I didn't have to disable any option before playback.

Current song playback --> right-click "stop after playback" --> stops after song, same song stays highlighted --> "Play" repeats last played song, aftwards it keeps playing the queue.

If you need to repeat a song after a STOP, use REPEAT switch, then use "right-click Stop after playback".… Play and switch repeat off.
If you don't want a messing with a "repeat option", use "Show current" hotkey then add it to queue [Q] (if clear), then "right-click Stop after playback"…

I think app should not repeat the track that was just played

That's... pretty complicated for the pretty simple request to stop after playback and stay on file instead of switching to the next one, isn't it?

Current song playback --> right-click "stop after playback" --> stops after song, same song stays highlighted --> "Play" repeats last played song, aftwards it keeps playing the queue.
Yeah - I meant the complete sequence: Current song playback --> right-click "stop after playback" --> stops after song, same song stays highlighted --> "Play" repeats last played song, aftwards it keeps playing the queue.

Silver bullet is make this behavior optional (switched off by default), because winamp's behavior doesn't seem quite right.

WinAMP's behaviour is just right! ;-)
I'd absolutely love to see that as an option, for sure.
Thanks for bearing with me.
