Title: Saving the playlist by just pressing a shortcut / key?
Post by: Biff on November 17, 2021, 15:08:13
Is there a way to save a new (unsaved) playlist and an existing (saved) playlist in the album folder by just pressing one key or a shortkey (instead of pressing CTRL+S what opens the save window where you have to chose the folder to store the playlist).

No. What reason to save playlists to album folders in 2021?

Well, I would not know where to save else. The playlist would be moved, if the album folder would bei moved. Where should one save the playlists? What is useful?

Biff, of course offtop, but since you're using it, maybe you can explain why anyone should save playlists in the album folder at all, except for stuffing disc with garbage? I can't understand this for years. It's like saving a shortcut to an application's executable file, as if the application itself cannot be launched.

Well, I would not say that anyone should do it. Among other things, like I said above, when I move the album folder the playlist is moved with it (instead of getting needles elsewhere). And I didn't know where I should save it else.

I would not think so, because a playlist does much more than just starting something.

Where do you save the playlists, where should one save them? And why?

AIMP save all playlists in it profile folder (it single storage) automatically. So you not need to care about it

Yes, but it also saves playlists (of albums) I do not need / want. And may be versions (different tracks enabled or such) of it I do not want. And there is no order, no category in the playlists there. And the tags of the tracks should be completely filled, respectively some of them at least be available otherwise the names of the playlist were incomplite, e.g. the album title missing in the playlist name. So one had to adapt such.

Biff:  in the portable version, AIMP by default stores playlists in the "PLS" subfolder inside the Profile folder (AIMP/Profile/PLS).  That would be the best place to keep all of them in.

Because the playlists contain the path on your drive to their files at the time the lists were created/modified, if you move the folder containing the files used in the playlist somewhere else on your drive, it will show them as "missing."  So it's not a good idea to do that.  Caveat:  I don't use the "Library" function of AIMP so my comments do not reflect any capabilities that may have as far as moving files that already exist on a saved playlist.

Even if I wanted to store the playlists in the PLS folder it would not work. I had about 2000 playlists there which caused Aimp to get quite sluggish (so I had to remove them). So if I would store all of my playlists there I guess I would store there 10.000nds of playlists. So Aimp would not work at all anymore.

I would like to use the Library very much. Why do you not use it?

Just personal preference.  I use a library exclusively with another player, but prefer to keep AIMP as my default player for single files played for testing, and for newly acquired ones to see if I enjoy the music first.  It's also my default player for pls/m3u radio streams and for recording streaming stations, at which it excels.

OK, yes, very understandable.
