Title: Distorted Sound
Post by: thesouvenir on September 13, 2021, 07:49:16
Hi everybody,

Sorry to spam the forum with questions, but I'm new to the software and am really close to replacing Winamp with it permanently.

I've noticed that I'm getting a lot of distortion when I'm playing music. If I'm not doing anything else on my PC it usually doesn't happen (though sometimes the transition between songs in the playlist alone does it), but if I'm surfing the net or even if I try to open Aimp settings, etc., the song will become garbled and sometimes freeze in that garbled stated (as though struggling and failing to play the song) for quite a few seconds before catching up with itself and continuing to play. I'm using Izotope Ozone 7, which I thought might be the culprit, but even with the DSP plugin disabled it happens a fair amount. The CPU usage doesn't seem to be very high during all of this, so I'm not sure what it might be.

Anybody have any thoughts? Suggestions? Experience with this problem?

Thanks for any help!

What output settings are used? (First page in settings dialog)

Hi there, thanks for getting back to me. My output settings (if I'm understanding the question correctly) are:

Device: WASAPI Exclusive (Event)
Parameters: 192000Hz / 24bit (i32) / Stereo

Is this the information you were asking for?

Hey, thanks. I'll definitely give that a try. Is there any reason that you (or anybody else) can think of why when I use any of the the "Exclusive" WASAPI modes the playback starts to crackle and pop? Or, should I start a separate thread?

EDIT: I figured out the "Exclusive" question. I had the EQ on in Aimp and Ozone on at the same time. Turned Aimp's off and the snaps and crackles disappeared.
EDIT2: I actually think the above fix also cleared up my original problem (the distortion question that began the thread). Thanks for everybody's input!
