DSP plug-in for Winamp

What is Dee?

Dee is a Digital Sound Processing plug-in for Winamp. It improves the sound by adding deeper bass, treble and richer 3d effect without distortion.

What's new in version 1.1?

Version 1.1 has a completly new, easier and much more intuitive interface. The DSP effects are now faster and sound better. Reverb effect is added to simulate different environments. We also added "mini" and "hidden" option for people who don't like too much windows on the desktop. Of course we optimized DSP effects to use less CPU power.

How to use this plug-in?

After you have installed Dee in Winamp plug-ins folder, please start Winamp player, open "Preferences" window (press Ctrl-P or Right Mouse Click, Options, Preferences), go to "DSP/Effect" tab and select Dee. The new window with 9 sliders will be opened. We recommend to disable Winamp built-in equalizer. Here's a short description of the sliders:
  • Bass Amp, Mid Amp, Treb Amp - bass, mid tones and treble amplification, give better quality than Winamp built-in equalizer.
  • Bass Dyn - Use to adjust bass processing module dynamic curve. More dynamic - more low frequency will be reconstructed.
  • Bass Frq - cutoff frequency of bass processing module. Use lower values if you have large speakers, and higher values for small speakers.
  • Treb Dyn - Use to adjust treble processing module dynamic curve. More dynamic - more high frequencies you will hear and the sound will become more phat. Please note that in some low quality records you'll hear more hiss when treble dynamic is set to heavy/extreme.
  • Treb Frq - cutoff frequency of treble processing module.
  • 3D amp - 3d effect (surround, side channel) amplification. Use higher values to add mode 3d, especially when you have speakers close together. Please note that low bitrate mp3's could be distorted by setting 3d amp to high.
  • Reverb - Use this to simulate different environments. It also improves low quality mp3s when using 3d amp. Hall and City reverbs may require bass amp to be lowered.
There are also some helpful buttons. Press "?" at the top to open about window and launch this help. Press "x" to hide Dee window. The sound processing will be still active. To open Dee window, open preferences (Ctrl-P), DSP tab and press "Configure" window. There is also "mini" mode. Press the triangle at the bottom of Dee window.

    What are the requirements?

  • Pentium/K6 200MHz, 32MB RAM
  • (recommended Pentium 2/Celeron/K6-2 400MHz)
  • Microsoft Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000 operating system

Yes, we know that Dee window sometimes disappears under Win 2000, we'll try to fix it ASAP.

Dee doesn't work on some MP3s and CDs

Currently Dee supports only 44/48kHz, stereo sound format.
If you want to use Dee with your audio CDs, we recommend you download and install CD Reader plug-in.
