[Planned] Strange sorting order for Chinese song filenames (not by Pinyin)

[Runze]

Message:

In AIMP for Android, when sorting Chinese songs by filename, the order is not based on the first character's Pinyin (phonetic alphabet) as expected. It seems to follow a different rule (possibly Unicode code point or stroke order).

Test example (single Chinese characters as filenames):
不(b), 出(ch), 半(b), 唐(t), 弱(r), 归(g), 折(zh), 桃(t), 清(q), 游(y), 燕(y)

Expected Pinyin order (as seen in other players):
半(b) → 不(b) → 出(ch) → 归(g) → 清(q) → 弱(r) → 唐(t) → 桃(t) → 燕(y) → 游(y) → 折(zh)

Actual order in AIMP for Android – appears arbitrary, making it difficult to browse Chinese song lists.

Suggestion:

Implement standard Pinyin-based sorting for Chinese filenames, or add an option to choose the sorting rule.

Environment:

AIMP for Android version: v4.25.1673(07.03.2026)

Android version: Android 15

System language: Chinese

Thank you for your great work.

With the migration to the Android 17 SDK, I plan to use a new library for string comparison. If you're interested, I can send you the development version for testing.

[Runze]

I’d be happy to try the development version. Please send it to me.

Here is nightly build:
https://disk.yandex.ru/d/PlqxQzwGyKa-rA
New string comparing algorithm is used inside playlist (music library is not yet updated to use it).
Waiting for your feedback.

[Runze]

The sorting issue for Chinese filenames still exists in the nightly build. Please consider using TinyPinyin (lightweight, Android-friendly) for pinyin-based sorting.
The new "highlight current playing song" feature is good.

What sorting template you've tried?

[Runze]

Default sorting by file name

Default sorting by file name

Do you've sorted the files in playlist? or music library (my music) or file adding dialog?

[Runze]

I sorted the files by name in the "My Music/Folders" section.

[Runze]

Sorry, that was my mistake. I apologize for wasting your time. But I just checked again — sorting Chinese songs by "File Name" in the playlist still does not sort by Pinyin.

[Artem]

Ok, thank you. It's seem ICU library is not suitable for replacement for current algorithm. Thank you for testing

Please, try this build:

[Runze]

OK. Thank you, I'll test it.

Are there any other file sharing methods? Can you send it via Telegram, VK, or email?

In the playlist, sorting Chinese songs by filename is still not sorted by Pinyin.
Suggest adding a gesture: on the home screen, swipe from left to right to go to the tab bar. The opposite gesture (swipe from right to.
Also, I suggest again that use the TinyPinyin library for proper Pinyin‑based sorting on Android. GitHub repo: https://github.com/promeG/TinyPinyin

Thank you for your help. I will put this task off for the future for now

[Runze]

Artem, sorry, my fault. I just verified that in AIMP 4.31.1729 beta (20.05.2026), filename sorting for Chinese songs in playlist is already using Pinyin.
Please ignore my previous report. Thanks and sorry for the trouble.
Best regards.

[Artem]

OK, thank you for clarification
Anyway, I plan to return to this issue in v4.40

[17hapi]

Playlist is ok. Will the music library use it in v4.40?
